A team of German tinkerers developed an electronic bike lock that lifts bicycles up light poles to keep them away from bike thieves. A remote control tells motors to wheel the bike up and down a pole. Practical? Doubtful. Expensive to build? Likely. Cool? As hell.
The pole-ascending bike lock was one of the fruits of a contest held by German electronics manufacturer, Conrad, called “3 Teams, 14 Days, 150,000 possibilities”, which had teams using various electronic devices to create odd contraptions.
Two of the teams focused on bike-related technology: the lock and a bicycle dubbed the “party bike”, which was out fitted with giant speakers. See the videos below.
