Washington DC Outdoors Guide

Washington DC Outdoor Guide

Situated on the Potomac River, with the Appalachian Mountains to the west and Chesapeake Bay to the east, Washington DC’s got a lot going for it besides federal jobs.

The bay, the Potomac and other nearby rivers offer plenty of waterways to explore by kayak or canoe. Mather Gorge, just on the outskirts of the city offers hiking, rock climbing and world-class whitewater kayaking. Heading west, you hit the mountains of Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia, and plenty of mountain biking, cycling, backpacking, skiing, snowboarding…you name it.
