Free eBook covers the basics of bike touring

Bike Touring Basics

It’s one thing to decide you’d like to plan an expedition. It’s another to fit all the pieces together to make it happen. For cyclists who aspire to long-distance touring, the implementation phase got a little easier – and cheaper – with the publication of a 60-page eBook titled Bike Touring Basics.

Written by Friedel Rother and Andrew Grant, a couple who set off to ride their bikes around the world in 2006, the book covers everything from picking a bike to finding a place to rest your weary head (or legs, in this case).

After riding their bikes over 30,000 miles through 31 countries, they probably know what they’re talking about.

Other topics covered in the book include:

* How to save money for a tour
* How to pick out a destination and a route
* Training before you leave
* The basic gear (sleeping mats, tents, bike accessories)
* Finding the pace that’s right for you
* Managing Money
