Banff Centre accepting entries for photo contest

Got an eye for photography? Just lucky? Need $1,000 Canadian?

The Banff Centre is now accepting submissions for its 2010 photography contest. Entries must be submitted by April 30. There’s no entry fee and the competition is open to professionals and amateurs.

For inspiration, check out the winning photos from last year’s competition. The ethereal image above, titled TamasFrozen in Time, by Nathalie Daoust of Canada, was the 2009 Grand Prize winner.

The grand prize is $1,000 Canadian and the prize for winning each category is $500 Canadian. The categories this year are:

Mountain Adventure – images depicting any mountain sport such as climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding,
mountaineering, etc.

Mountain Culture – images with a cultural theme focusing on indigenous mountain people and their customs, traditions and ways of life as related to their mountain environment.

Mountain Environment – images that communicate an important message about the mountain environment or ecosystems.

Mountain Flora/Fauna– images of plants and animals found in a mountain environment.

Mountain Landscape – images of mountain landscapes and scenery.
